We Love Kauai
In July of 2000, Brian and I had been dating for nine whole months. We lived in our first apartment together in downtown Sacramento and we were playing in our first band together Shovelfist. On his birthday, July 7th, Brian got a call saying he had won the grand prize from an opening celebration of the first Guitar Center in Sacramento. That prize was a free week in Kauai which included a condo, airfare, and a rental car.
It was our first vacation together and it was amazing.
Ever since that trip we’ve been wanting to return, but the cost to fly to Hawaii from Vegas was more expensive than our trip to Ireland last Summer.
However, the prices dropped this March and I immediately planned our return after nineteen years. We decided to go during our son’s spring break so he could enjoy it as well.
Here are some of the wonderful photos from our trip:
Being the “project manager” I am, I had an entire google doc for our itenirary which ended up being pretty much useless since we got all of it done in the first day we were there. It ended up being more of an impromptu-island-time vacation instead, which was far more productive in my opinion.
We spent time at seven different beaches, saw two waterfalls, two piers, toured an ancient Hawaiian village and still had time to relax in our condo.
We love Kauai and it’s amazing atmosphere. We would move there if we could, but responsibility and cost of living stand in the way.
I definitely recommend visiting Kauai at least once in your lifetime. Learn about its history, be respectful of its precious environment and soak in the beauty of its beaches, it will do you good.
